Azud and Noria
The channeling system, initiated by the muslim society of Andalusia, was perfected in the 16th century with the Azud, a masonry dam in charge of raising the level of the current of the river, to divert the water through a channel to the major irrigation ditches. The whole use of the flow of Segura culminated with the construction of the Noria, at the end of the nineteenth century, which acts as a leveling bridge between the river and the highlands of the right bank of the municipality. Note the monumental work of ashlar that protects it from the floods of the Segura.
